The city has been made aware of a number of complaints regarding individuals posing as city officials who are attempting to obtain personal and financial identification information from our citizens
These attempts include bank, credit card, and social security information. Please be aware that the City of Phenix City will never contact you for this information, nor would we threaten legal action against you if you don’t comply.
Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their attempts to get your money and personal details, and many even have the ability to mask their phone numbers to appear as though they are calling from a verified city phone number.
If you have received a call from someone stating they are a city official and feel your personal information has been compromised or feel threatened, please dial 911.
The best way to avoid being scammed is to ignore suspicious numbers, and never give out personal information over the phone. Be alert.
