Phenix City Council met for a regular Council Meeting at 9 a.m., EDT, on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 via the teleconference platform Zoom. The media and public were encouraged to watch online by visiting the website calendar, located at https://phenixcityal.us/events, and selecting the meeting date. After the event, the recording will be posted to the city’s  YouTube channel. Cable TV BEAM also broadcast the meeting live on Cable Channel 7.

Mayor/Council took the following action on agenda items:

May 18, 2020 Work Session Minutes were approved.

May 19, 2020 Council Meeting Minutes were approved.

Previously approved Resolution No. 2020-143 in reference to authorizing the Mayor and City Manager to sign documentation to enter into a contract with Ronald S. Head for the sale of property located at 4206 Silver Terrace Court in the amount of $85,000.00, was ratified.

Resolution in reference to authorizing and directing the Mayor and City Manager to proceed with the purchase of wetlands and streams credits through Mitigation Solutions Midcreeks, LLC in the amount of $93,500.00, was approved.

Resolution in reference to accepting the dedication of a drainage easement from Jordan and Stephanie Sewell, was approved.

Resolution in reference to accepting the dedication of drainage easement from Willie H. McCall, Jr. and Zelda Howard, was approved

Resolution in reference to authorizing Alabama Power Company to install one street light near 517 21st Avenue, was approved.

Resolution in reference to authorizing the Mayor and City Manager to sign necessary documents granting an easement to Alabama Power Company on Opelika Road to provide underground electrical power for the new Russell County Department of Human Resources building, was approved.

Resolution in reference to the purchase of three (3) 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe from Donohoo Chevrolet, Fort Payne, Alabama, in the total amount of $96,885.00, was approved.

Public Hearing to Amend the Code of Ordinances for the City of Phenix City, Alabama, Appendix A, Zoning; Article VI, Regulations Applying to all or Several Districts; Section 19 – Signs and Outdoor Advertising; Add Political Signs. No one phoned in over the Mayor’s line and no one was present at the Council Chambers to address council regarding the amendment.

Ordinance (second reading) to amend the Code of Ordinances for the City of Phenix City, Alabama, Appendix A, Zoning; Article VI, Regulations Applying to all or Several Districts; Section 19 – Signs and Outdoor Advertising; Add Political Signs, was approved.

Appointed Mr. Joe Lewis to The Downtown Redevelopment Authority.

Re-appointed Mr. Willie Thomas to The Industrial Development Board.

Appointed Mr. Charles Norman White to The Industrial Development Board.

Re-appointed Ms. Tychell Sanders to The Phenix City Housing Authority Board.

Appointed Ms. Eliza Phillips to The Phenix City Planning Commission.
