Mission Statement

The City of Phenix City Planning and Economic Development Department’s mission is to guide growth and development in the city. The planning department uses zoning to identify land uses to protect property values as well as both natural and built resources. The City of Phenix City Zoning Ordinance regulates development in order to ensure that state and federal codes are met, life and safety are provided for, and that there is an order to development throughout the City. The Department also oversees the Comprehensive Plan, whose purpose is to identify growth and development trends that will improve the quality of life for all residents.

The Planning and Economic Development Department is the first stop for the establishment of a business within the City limits. Our goal is to work with our project partners to ensure that every regulatory activity, from the conception of the idea to the completion of the project, is handled in an efficient, customer-oriented manner.

To achieve this mission, the Planning and Economic Development Department creates and implements long-term growth strategies that seek to preserve and protect our city’s rich culture, heritage, natural and human resources, and important assets through community-driven land use approaches.
