Duties & Responsibilities of the Criminal Investigation Division
The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) handles an average of 2,400 cases per year. The CID currently consists of two general investigation units, a specialized investigation unit, and a joint vice operations with the Russell County Sheriff Department.
General Investigation Units
The two general investigation units are supervised by two lieutenants and staffed with five investigators each. The general investigation units are responsible for the bulk of the felony calls handled by the Police Department.
Specialized Investigation Unit
The Specialized Investigation Unit is supervised by one lieutenant and staff of five investigators responsible for:
- Juvenile crimes
- Crimes against children
- Crime scene processing
- Property and evidence / latent print technician
- Financial crimes
- Sex offender registration
