Duties & Responsibilities of the Patrol Division
The Patrol Division’s authorized manpower is currently 56 sworn officers and the division is tasked with being first the responder to citizen calls for assistance in matters involving criminal, medical, traffic, civil and miscellaneous incidents. The division is comprised of four patrol squads, each working 12-hour shifts on a four-day-on / four-day-off schedule.
The Patrol Division utilizes computer- and video-equipped patrol vehicles to service a geographic jurisdiction of 65.5-square miles. The department handled 48,641 calls for service during the calendar year of 2011.
Motor Squad
The Motor Squad is responsible for traffic enforcement, collision investigations, and escort details.
School Resource Officers
The School Resource Officer Unit is responsible for providing a law enforcement presence at the various schools within the Phenix City School System.
Animal Control
The Animal Control Unit is responsible for maintaining the animal shelter and enforcing applicable laws relating to animals.
